Not bad at all!

I see that between 1949 and 1950 there was a major reduction in mintage from over 14M to 240k. It would be even better if it were a 1951 (120k). This makes me want to check out that stack of George V & VI pennies I just got.

Can anyone help as to why the mintage reduced so drastically?

1950 is a key date and very scarce.
In this condition, value £18.
Rest in Peace

I have an old pocket guide from 1988 that I still refer to, it has this one listed at £4 ^^ but I don't use it for the prices... it lists mintages and variations not covered in Spinks.

1950 saw 240,000 minted as mentioned but also 17,513 proofs (listed as less valuable than Unc regular issue)

1951 was 120,000 with 20,000 proofs. There were proofs for all George VI pennies except possibly 1947.

Also a number of variants to look out for such as 1945 doubled 9, 1937 reverses that point at teeth or between teeth, 1940 with single or double exergue line and 1944 where the waves touch exergue or not.

Anyway its one I have on my want list, I have a 1951 but no 1950. Congrats on this one :)

The reason why 1950 & 51 1d's had low mintages is that they were all sent to the British colonies. Some enterprising dealers realised this and swooped to buy up these dates.
In the 60's they were hyped by the coin media and reached silly prices. They are really common now.
The good ones in BU fetch decent £.New 1d collectors probably keep the market going for these. They were and still are a tragic investment.
Worth bagging for 20C though.
