Pick this up tonight along with a 1797 Cartwheel Penny (These things are HUGE!). Help with grade and value appreciated.

VG British grading, and still quite a nice coin under the circumstances, as explained: It is VERY common to see major edge bruising with these, and also LOTS of wear. They did after all, see heavy circulation.
They were made of pure copper, and so the metal is quite soft. Value $25 or thereabouts.

I think I agree, with Sel. Is that a punch mark of some kind in the side of his head though?
Its a popular old coin, these are great in hand and too big to quite know what to do with it ^^

I remember reading a newspaper article, where a pop singer on stage was struck in the side of the head with a cartwheel twopence, thrown from the audience. A poor man's ninja star! He had to retire from the stage for quite some time.

VG10/F12 but the gouges in the reverse left field and above George's ear reduce the value significantly. Value £15.

Enough problems to keep the value in the $20-25 range. The edge bruises are typical. These are still great to hold and own.
These circulated heavily and they've always been proof against the proposal that big coins don't (or didn't) circulate. At least in England.

2 oz of copper doesn't bounce. £1 worth of these bad boys (incl the !d) weighs 15lb. Enough to put your trousers around your ankles.

Thanks all.
When I was looking at it without a loupe/lupe, I thought it was a planchet flaw on George's head, but I guess it's a hit of sorts.
The rim dings look horrible in the images, but in hand they aren't visible. They are slight imperfections in the very edge of the rim, but they don't deform the edge on the outside (if that makes any sense) except the one at the N. I think the camera flash highlights them.
These are crazy coins to have put into general circulation. I couldn't imagine carrying a few of these around in my pocket. They're definitely going to be special in my collection. As soon as you hold them, it's like you can feel the history behind them. Hard to explain, but they're very cool.

I would think F-12, and Details because of the hit on the face.
