Just wanted other options on this. After an hour on the phone with ebay customer service, I just discovered that ebay sellers that are part of something called ebay "concierge" can call in and have negative reviews removed for no legitimate reason.

The supervisor said the negative feedback I left did not violate any terms or conditions but the seller had it removed as a courtesy. I was speechless.

What ever happened to accountability?...

You do wonder what the point of feedback is. "You can say anything you want about me as long as it is good."

Accountability on ebay? It's all about them getting their 10% from sales & shipping. Now they can't let accountability get in the way of a high volume seller's sales!

I'm in the Concierge program, presumably for my buying habits (I haven't sold anything through them in several years). I poked around a little and found a section about ebay's "automated defect removal" process, where "certain transaction defects received for reasons outside a seller's control will be automatically removed from the seller's performance standards and feedback profile" -- these include things like buyer behavior (unpaid, or a payment claim ruled against them) and shipping issues in transit (where tracking indicates that an item was delayed although shipped on time).

Even though your negative feedback may not have violated any terms (and you didn't tell us what the actual problem was), if the seller can legitimately claim that they're not at fault, the negative feedback can be removed.

I didn't know that before this little bit of research, and it might explain why some of these high volume sellers have no negative feedback at all. It does bother me a little, but I also understand that not every negative feedback is deserved, so it's good that there is some way to keep the record clean. Doesn't mean it can't be abused, though (and abuse can be done by either party).

The reason for the negative feedback was because the seller sent the wrong item, I sent the item back. Tracking number said received. Never received a refund, waited several days, finally messaged the seller, he didn't reply for additional few days. When I finally told him that I would be asking ebay to step in, hey went on a long rambling rant and called me rude. I left a negative feedback. I still to this day haven't received a refund. I think he's going to run the clock ( ebay gives the seller 2 weeks?) just to be a jerk.

Something else to note, I'm not an inexperienced eBayer; I have hundreds of positive seller and buyer feedback and a 100% score. If that means anything..

I understand the point you're making, but in my case, even the ebay supervisor said I didn't break any of the terms and conditions.

Did you go through the return process via ebay, ie, opening a case, etc? Normally ebay will automatically issue the refund after a certain amount of time if you did everything correctly. Seller has x number of days to issue the refund, and after that ebay issues the refund and closes the case.

with edweather. Patience for both the seller and buyer will eliminate 80% of the "problems" on ebay.

Unfortunately, patience has been killed by computers in hand and instant delivery by the big monsters.

Anyone on ebay for any period of time should know that feedback score means nearly nothing. I've been paid from every 0 buyer every time without exception. I've had to submit a half dozen emails to 10,000 score bidders.

And if you only buy, you can never get a negative or neutral even if you don't pay.

Yes, I went through ebay's return process.

The point I'm making is, how is it fair that a seller can have feedback that they don't like removed without a legitimate reason?

Like I said, the ebay supervisor told me, very matter of fact-ly, that it was removed as a courtesy to the seller and without legitimate cause. She told me its not fair, but there's nothing she or I could do about it.

I agree it stinks that ebay will sometimes remove feedback, it shouldn't be that way.

I've never heard of ebay removing legitimate feedback. The only feedback I have ever heard of being removed was abusive feedback or cases of clear feedback extortion.
