Hi All,

This looks like a RIC 94 (http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/sear5/s7175.html) .. my scale doesn't do partial grams, and it comes in at 3g. The lettering on the right side of the reverse doesn't look quite right. Any thoughts on authenticity?

The lettering is no reason to suspect this coin. You can't expect Roman coins to all look alike, unless they were struck from the same die- even then there will be differences due to striking and flans. Below is a link to another Geta with very similar letters-- maybe the work of the same engraver.

Hi Victor,

I did see the 0001; at first, they both looked the same to me. The lettering at the top of the obverse more closely matches the 94, but other than that, they are extremely similar. I'm just stumped on how to make sure, other than taking it to a coin dealer.

Among some other discussions, I found the posting on how to test specific gravity. After my brain untangles itself from reading that, I may give it a shot and see if the coin can pass that test. Do you know of any others I can try?

Thanks for your help!
