I just heard an interesting story from a dealer that I'll pass along here.

Sometime in the first decade of the 1900s, the San Francisco Mint sent large quantities of Lincoln cents to Australia, for reasons unknown. In recent years, high-grade Lincolns from the years 1909-1915 have appeared in Australia, sometimes as complete BU rolls!

Imagine finding a BU roll of 1909-S, or any other date in the teens? While that may be an unimaginable find, some American dealers have traveled to Australia and picked up single and bulk high-grade Lincolns from this era, which weren't correctly priced by local dealers.

I thought I'd pass this along to Australian collectors here--there might be more out there, good luck!

That would certainly not be unprecedented. Due to all of the gold melts in the 30s, many gold coins would be very rare if it were not for the tens of thousands of US gold coins repatriated from European banks in the last half of the 20th century.

eaglefoot-
And it works both ways! I've found somewhat valuable Australian coins here in "bargain bins".

Interesting story,
haven't had that luck yet, here in Oz. Managed to pick up 3 rolls of steel pennies/cents, only so far.
Have also just purchased a near complete set in an album of 1c pieces from 1941 to about 1964. All in average condition, would love to find a DDO or DDR, any date, would be happy with that.
Still looking at this set, you never know what might turn up.
