Nice coin , I'm not sure ,but I would probably drop it one grade. I tend to stay away from spotted Lincolns . More than likely it happened while grading from a sneeze or a drop of saliva , which has me wondering why they ( TPG's ) don't for an extra fee ,give a coin a couple seconds dip in Acetone then slab it . If they were to do that I'm sure that would solve a lot of problems long term .

Did you already have this encapsulated cent in your possession before the spot became evident?

Abe's growing a mole?
agreed with T-BOP, it's probably the result of some dirt that got on the coin before being slabbed. Sad, really, as it looks like it was a very nice cent!

yes I did, but I am just wondering if the spot may get bigger, in time.

What a shame. Probably drops a grade.

If the spot appeared after it was encapsulated, then it is completely possible for it to continue to grow.
The problem with this isn't how it affects the grade. The problem is that it is very unsightly and drops the eye appeal to nearly nothing, regardless of how nice the rest of the coin is.
When I see a coin like this, I don't care about the grade, or even the price. I don't want it. And I'm not alone in that immediate dislike.

Agree. Coin should be cracked and dealt with as soon as possible. With any luck, acetone or Verdi-care will take care of this quickly without a meaningful trace.

Change the storage. Less risk that the carbon spot may grow further. If you are not too worried about a slight potential loss in value, OK to leave as is.
