I have been lucky to find a 1998 Wide AM Lincoln. I was unlucky to find a small but notable verdigris spot just under the bust, the coin is a good VF. What I need to know is how long should I leave this coin in acetone, don't want to spoil this once in a lifetime find. The coin came out of a roll from Ketchikan, Alaska.

You sure its verdigris and not copper oxide (rust)? Acetone should show results fairly quick...overnite max. Be sure to rinse w/ distilled water not tap.

Acetone has no effect on verdigris except to dehydrate it a bit. Wont make it go away.

Organic solvents will have no effect on inorganic corrosion.

Thank you Biokemist6. I I posted the other links for general information about removing surface debris from copper coins, but I should have been more specific about my purpose there.

@dd227,

It is always helpful to re-post the polarity ladder scheme My post was directed at the OP regarding the use of acetone on verdigris and other forms of corrosion.
