Can anyone tell me if there are two distinctive "O" that were used on this coin. I have two in my possession and they appear to have different O's. Both coins weigh 26.7 grams. They grade appoximately VF and AU50. I have owned the VF for some time and the AU belongs to a friend. The AU is the one I'm concerned about initially. The O has an elongated oval center where the VF is considerably more round. I know, where are the pics! I'm working on that. Never posted pics to the forum before. Thanks for any input in the meantime. nlp

There is an oval "O" and a circular "O" with a narrow slit, The oval "O" filled almost flush on some VAM5, some O/O repunched, some tilted left, some right, some high, VAM12 is O/O with vertical line in opening. All for 1884-O.

Your photo was too small for me to tell, but I hope this helps. Thank goodness for the book :)

And this link is a good resource for the 1884 O Morgan dollar varieties.
