When I took a picture of this Mopar counter stamped quarter I noticed the strange rim. Is this wear? Damage? Milling machine?

Looks like a grinding job, abrasion, over all PMD.

I thought about grinding but then there's that "cut" mark at the bottom and that small raised piece of metal at the top that have perfect straight lines. Click on the picture to enlarge it so you can see them better. That's what makes me think it was milled for some reason
Rest in Peace

That edge does look milled. It might be pure happenstance that a counter stamp was hit on a previously intentional damaged quarter. I suppose it's possible, but I'm thinking both were done together.

It may be another of our mysterious maybes.

Thanks Mox - maybe it was milled to fit into something like a home made card with the Mopar stamp being the main eye catcher - then taken out eventually and circulated to wear everything down?
