(It's a commemorative, but I put it here as I think it would apply to any silver coin.)

Just wondering what's going on with the finish/surface of this coin. Is this an candidate for acetone/xylene?

Appears to be some type of toning or tarnishing. Usually such chemicals as Acetone have little to no effect on that but nothing to loose trying.

Possibly a dipped coin, too long immersed and not rinsed well leaving compounds continuing to eat away at surface. As Carl said, looks like someone tried to fix it by artificially toning, a buffing perhaps.

Beefed, coin's a goner, need to get rid of it...to me

Oooooo, ouch! Too bad computer's DOA, this deserves the "dancing lollypop"! I've really been wanting one of those, but surely wouldn't pay that much for a real problem. Rather have an honest G-4 for $75 or so...

Like Crazyb0 stated: it looks like hazing from over dipping. That's a horrible looking coin.

The whole coin feels wrong. Possibly just because of the extensive over dip. Any chance of a reverse photo?
