It seems to be a contemporary counterfeit which, at the time were as commonly found in circulation as legitimate currency. The grade is low, UK 'Very Good', and the coin has been polished. Not worth more than a pound or two I'm afraid.

I am glad you are honest with me.

I was contemplating maybe selling this coin and the last thing I want is to accidentally sell another person a coin that is not as stated. I am ignorant about UK/Great Britain coinage (along with a lot of other things) and that is why I come to this awesome website.

For future reference... what are the key identifiers of a contemporary counterfeit coin like this?
