This is an 1888/7 (overdate) shilling of Victoria; there is some luster remaining in places. The patina is quite lovely and presentable. What would your grade be (UK or US grading?)

EF British grading, with usual weak detail on lions' and leopards' faces. A tiny amount of wear is most easily detected in the lace behind the forehead of Queen Victoria.

Curiously, my 1998 Coincraft Catalog does not value the last 8 over 7 (quite obvious from your pictures), at any more than any non over dated shilling of the same type.
I would have thought a greater value, due to a most probable unique die.
Actually, the second last 8 looks as it may have been re cut as well.

From what I have seen, the 1888/7 is only marginally scarcer, and does not command much of a premium. Notwithstanding, it is still a nice little variety to have. :)

Nearly all 1888 Shillings are 8/7 the 1888 normal date is rare. Spinks don't even list 1888 as a dated coin just 1888/7. Same for collectors coins by Chris Perkins just lists 1888 with 8/7 but nothing for 1888 alone. as for the grade VF at a push too much wear for EF

Zookeeperz is correct on both counts. The overdate is normal, it is the 1888 without an underlying 7 which is rare, and the coin grades VF.
