G'day all,
Need some ideas on what I can do about this Coin?
I purchased this in 2012,
I can recall the Tin being Tacky to light touchon the Rubber part of the Lid.
I remember this because it was hard to take in & out of the Box, as it
was marking up the corners, so I stored them both in that same Bag.
I had stored it a zip line plastic bag for all this time.
Until I looked at it earlier this year after getting a glimpse look at Renniks
and seen the new Estimate $800.
Problem is it seems like there has been some kind of " Reaction between "
the Bag & the Inner Coin Tin.
The Cardboard Box is Fine and untouched.
So the Whole Tin is Sticky & Tacky on the outside.
Not just the Rubber Top bit but just the Tin & not the Box

I've tried Everything single thing to try and get rid of this Mess, no luck at all.
So now the Coin Tin is all but Usless now!
I Still have the Coin in its capsule & COA.

How much have I Lost in $ Value without the Coin Tin?
Would I be better to Send it off to the PGS and get Graded & Certified?
If so what is the $ Cost of doing this?
Yes I want to Part with this Coin!

Or is it not really worth it,
as a Collector would be wanting it's Packaging for at least this Coin.
Who would want it in Slab, it's not like this is Old Silver.

So what are my Options,
any help on the above Questions would of great help

Just trying to get a better understanding of what has actually happened ... so is the outside of the tin still in good condition except for the sticky substance on it? If this is case then it would be worthwhile persisting.

Maybe you could try this https://www.bunnings.com.au/oomph-2...ver_p4470014

I've found this works where other products have failed. Good luck!

Hey mate,
Yes the Tin is 95% undamaged and each time I try a new substance
the paint gets a little more thinner/damaged.
I have tried everything from the least Nastiest Product and upwards.
Starting with,
Warm water & Soap, Mild Dishwashing Detergent, Marathon Sticky Goo Remover, Isopropyl alcohol (Sprites) & Wd 40.

What does "Anyone" think about me getting the Coin Slabed?
Will I regain any Appreciation Back doing this?
I really need this Question Answered!

Hi,

I had two of these coins, the tins were a complete disaster. The two I had were very slightly tacky when I bought them and actually spoke to the mint about it and they insisted that there was no issue and no one else has mentioned anything (this was shortly after they came out).
I sold one about 2 years ago and the tin was slightly more tacky and sold the other a couple of weeks ago. The tin on the last one was terrible. They clearly get worse as time goes on no matter how they are stored. fingerprints all over it and it actually left your fingers sticky after touching it. Coins in both were pristine.
I dont think the state of the tin will impact the sale price as all the tins are affected in some way. I think most people overlook this problem. Many listed on ebay for quite abit, however in reality you're looking at 600-700 sale price regardless of the state of the tin and if the coin has been slabbed or not.
Without a doubt the worst packaging EVER on this product. I wouldnt recommend trying to clean it, it wont work. I've seen these tins with clear contact over them and they look even worse. Anything that goes over them to seal in the stickyness wont work due to the substance used to paint them. If you try and put a clear coat or lay over them, the black rubber will bleed underneath it and will smudge everywhere...
Been a while since the original post, so hope you've been ok with it!

Hi

I agree with Craig - I would leave it as is without further interaction

The packaging on this coin is terrible - hot weather does not help making packaging even stickier

It's actually a common issue with this release that has been under reported

The price for this coin has dropped a little over the last few months averaging around $560

You should get $500 for it even with packaging problem as they are highly sought after

Cheer's Craig/MrCruise.
Thanks for the information on the Sticky Tin, I thought it was just me & the way I Packed it away.
Kind of feel better now that it is a Manufactureing fault.
So just leave it be, sounds good!
