I can certainly see why you would ask. The rims alone would seem to indicate a matte proof. I've never owned one, so it will be interesting to learn more about the diagnostics.

It is an amazingly beautiful example.

There are obverse markers, but I'm going to give you the "killer" pickup from the reverse, a crescent-shaped die chip next to the M in UNUM:

That's a naked-eye pickup for 1909VDB Proofs. The image is from Heritage's shots of the extraordinary PCGS/CAC Gold PR67+ RB which is considered the single finest example of the type despite not being Red.

Here's the whole reverse of another example for perspective, a PCGS/CAC PR66RB near and dear to Cascade's heart since he was privileged to hold it in his hands as a raw coin. Image from Stacks Bowers.

We'd need clearer images of the UM in UNUM to see if there's that chip.

Here is a link to one of my posts, with lots of die markers for the 1909 VDB Matte Proofs.

We need better pics to tell though.

Superb diagnostics on that link.

We should have a librarian who keeps all these links available by title. I'd bet we would be able to have the best link system for Numismatists possible.

I would add that there are many business strikes that are very proof like. The hubs and dies were fresh in 1909 and they produced some really nice cents. the question "is this a matte proof" comes up a LOT on internet forums.
