Hello everyone. I'm new to this site so this is my first time posting. Okay so anyway I came across this penny a while ago and I just had it put to the side because I wasn't to sure if it was just damaged or if it came from the mint that way... I will post a picture, sorry my pictures aren't the best as I took it from my iPhone. Let me know what you guys think. Thank you!

First off, to the family!

I guarantee that didn't come that way, its PMD. Question what caused it? I'm thinking " Dryer Coin". It was trapped in some machine causing circular wear on high points, wearing copper plating off down to zinc core. It my not specifically be a dryer, but same principle

Either that or was heated and tampered with, but looks more non-manmade. Don't think this was a Little Johnnie in the Garage job w/______.

Welcome to the forum. Good question. I agree with the rest that this couldn't have happened at the mint. There are very few things that can cause damage before it enters circulation and this isn't one of them.

It does look very cool though with the top layer scraped away to expose the zinc behind it only leaving the silhouette of the Lincoln.
