Hello Coin Community, I joined a few months ago. Took a short time out and am now back to searching penny rolls. I am now sorting through many pennies and found the 1959-D Lincoln Penny. This was mentioned on YouTube as a good one to find. I have never had anything graded before and am still learning. What do you think? I am still struggling with taking photos which is taking me time to get the photo to come out so you can see the coin perfectly. Thank you all for your help. Edited by labrecqd 09/04/2017 10:33 pm

Here's a topic of earlier today: http://goccf.com/t/295878I wrote a long detailed...rant... there and same goes here. My opinion only, but read others as well about topic of grades cents especially. I wouldn't kick your coin out of any collection, kinda hard to grade from pix, really any pic, but need concentric lighting, shadows too much and details wash out. Looks close to MS, high AU for sure.

@labrecqd, I'm glad you are back looking through coins. I agree with crazyb0 that you have a coin that is in amazing shape for its age, but is still worth only one cent. As you probably know, 1959 was the first year for LMCs and so they were preferentially saved by the public. I'm guessing that you have found part of some dude's stash. It is a great coin--super shiny, just unfortunately not really valuable.

I plan on getting this one graded. I have to start somewhere. May as well be this coin. Thanks for your input. Very much appreciated.
Also, I added a photo of Lincoln on the back. It almost appears that there are two of them. Thoughts anyone? Also, would these be a new error if that is the case? I should probably study the errors to know if this is one of them but have been busy sorting through the pennies in hand.

Ok well please post the results to this thread when you get it back! I'll be interested to see what the TPG thinks.

Labrecqd, you must not have checked out thread I posted above! Waste your money, its your right to do so, as said in thread it costs @ $10-100 to get a coin graded by TPGs, unless coin is MS68+ which your ain't and that's mint state plus, and almost PERFECT untouched coin. Even at MS69 a 1959D sells for less than $50, younwilling to chance/$100 on a $50 return? Get a grip, coin collecting isn't for flipping, at least unless you're an expert cherrypicker which VERY few are, I'm nowhere near one!

Crazyb0, nobody ever said he was doing it to make money. If you are a beginner with some extra money and you want to get your coin graded for fun, there's nothing wrong with that. It's a good experience.
Of course, if he is trying to make a profit off of this then you're definitely right.

If you want to send it in for grading, by all means, go for it. It will not add any value to the coin but, as said, value/profit isn't everything. I have yet to send a coin in for grading and would like to. You gotta start somewhere! If you send it in, please do post the results.

to CCF. If you want to have it graded/slabbed use ANACS,it cost the least. Please let me/us know when you get it back. John1

Giving this coin any other recommendation other than "don't send it to a TPG", is irresponsible. When opinions are asked, hiding behind the "it's your money to throw away" answer, doesn't help anyone. Using the money a TPG costs to buy a nice coin is much better and the honest alternative.

Quote: Looks close to MS, high AU for sure. I knew sooner or later you would play it safe . @ OP ,your 59-D Lincoln is exceptional coming out of a bank roll ,but it's not enough to send it in . Holder that bad boy and place it nicely into your collection in a 2x2 .
