Is that greenish area sunk below its normal surface? I would guess it spent part of its life in a coin holder/enclosure: with how the rim/edge is beveled and it looks like areas were ground off on the reverse to make it thinner. Similar to this type holder:

Yes it seems sunken more than the original surface. How sad but a beautiful coin that was just ruined from its container or even altered for its container.
