Hi everyone I'm new to community and new to the coin collecting hobby. Anyhow can anyone tell me if my quarter is a mint error or is it just a beat up quarter. Thanks.

It's just damaged. It has the appearance of a clipped (or incomplete) planchet but, the widened and flattened rim being retained in the same shape says not a clip. Metal on the coin was moved around after striking (i.e. post-mint damage[ PMD]). That's why the inwardly expanded rim overlaps the first 1 in the date. I hope this helps.

Keep searching and never hesitate to ask!

Thanks everyone. I believe its PMD. But does it look like a seconds braid is on top head?
