The way I see it is that any time bad advice is given here, I am going to correct it whether the giver of that advice likes it or not. It's not rude or rash to refute bad advice. It's the purpose of this forum to help people with their collections, not to help them destroy their collections, and that method has a far better than 50-50 chance of ruining any coin.

Toothpicks are VERY bad to use on coins for anything. The almost always scratch the surface of the coin, even if only very light pressure is used.

I also did not mention that using any kind of vegetable based oil is also bad to use. Mineral oil is the only kind of oil people should use for coin preservation of any kind.

I don't suggest anyone do anything to their coins unless they know what they are doing, and have practiced whatever method at great length on worthless pocket change first. That much I do agree with Mr. Booth.

I am honestly glad to have found this forum and all the wonderful people associated with it every single one of them. I have learned a lot here and just hope that maybe I can at some time impart something to others that and give back to the community.

I will post many questions in the future once I get my collection back in order after being away from it for many years.
