Crazyb0 is incorrect. Do not send it back to the bank or spend it. It's a rim to rim Die Crack. You would be losing money not keeping this. Congratulations on the find though.

thanks eav , crazyb , that was my thinking at first but under high scope you can see from my pic something hit the crack in front of lincolns nose, " another coin? " sort of bent it some, you can see the zinc a little from that hit...it is for sure a die crack, who knows, maybe the die exploded after this strike .... .. but seriously , it wow'd me when I seen it because of the date " being a shield cent " ...

Your welcome. The dies probably exploded like a frag grenade going off... oh wait, just kidding! A good example that the U.S. Mint is still not perfect at quality control. :)

Very cool find indeed. Air-Tite capsule for sure. Does anyone recommend an 100% pure acetone dip before putting it into the capsule? John1

That is quite a distinctive coin! Is there a way to confirm or rule out CrazyB0's proposal of a linear gas bubble rather than a die crack?

Please tell me that's your own a raw 1955 DD in an Airtite. It'd be the kind of thing that renews one's faith in numismatics.

You can tell most of my coins as I take their pictures on my grey calendar mouse pad - for some reason the pics turn out really good with that back ground

The deeper the die splits from the crack it can move into the split die category. Very nice find. Keep finger prints off it. as times goes on they will show up on the surface of the coin. (hold the coin by the rims) Finger prints do in time turn the coin darker in color on the faces of the coin: These drop the overall appearance and lower the value of the coin as collectors won't buy them. (newbies do though)

That's very true Coop. Because of this, that's what drives me away from some error coins on ebay. I am pretty picky when it comes to this stuff.

You have to be when buying. Slight imperfections can drop the value drastically in time when the coin you bought later turns out to be a problem coin. I bought a struck through wire coin and was told the finder found the coin when he searched a bag of cents. Noticed the imperfection and touched it and it fell off. Well I bought the coin and later on found out he had touched the coin and left a finger print that show up years later. So now it a problem coin.... It wasn't there when I bought the coin. They show up later on when there is nothing you can do to fix the issue on a BU coin... Live and learn. This also happens on certified coins. The fingerprint wasn't visible (or was added by a grader) but in time they appear.
