Im wondering if this is an error. At first it looked like someone may have tried to tamper with it. Only the inside part seems to be bent. Found it in pocket change. Let me know if more images might help in figuring this out.

Thanks.

My first thought was that it took a beating but looking at the inner rim gives me second thoughts. I tried to find out what kind of error it might be but I haven't had any luck. So, maybe someone messed with it. I hope an expert has more information. Meanwhile, I will continue to search for more info.

You think that's all it Is? I really wasn't sure if this was even possibly something that could have gone wrong while it was being made or if it was simply that a person took some tools to it.

It almost looks like parts of it hadn't been separated. And parts of the edge are almost missing it seems.

Just wanted to make sure. Thanks for your help!

Looks like John100 posted while I was still writing.

I found something similar here: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/CANADA-1997-...AOSw311ZrYX4

But as John100 pointed out. that kind of 'error' could be man made long after it left the mint.

The toonie is made from two pieces outer ring and a center plug when the dies strike it will lock the plug into the ring creating the toonie, so you can't have a turned center or reversed insert. Also welcome !

The 1997 toonie has a uncentered insert a real slight error for a toonie of that year, the larger the gap the more the coin is worth some are like 1/4 moon size

It looks like some one was messing with it. I have done the same to a few toonies myself. I can't find it right now, but there was a thread on here that showed the core of a Canadian and german 1996 planchetes busted out of the coin. Can anyone help?

A German planchet is one piece would not be able to pop out insert, unless you are very strong

Maybe some type of home made magicians coins - it's pretty easy to knock the center out - lot of videos on Youtube on how to do it.

I heard the ability to knock the center out is an error in itself. That certain toonies were made poorly so are more likely to be knocked around?
