I bought this a few years back, and in all this time I have been unable to identify it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know that my eyes are getting dim, but I can't make out the legend on either side.
Perhaps more light on the coin when you photograph it ?

Yeah, sorry that it is so hard to read. That is pretty much what it looks like in any light. (Plus this is actually a scan, so there is little I can do to alter the lighting. I'll try to resize the pic and see if that helps.

Cranking up the brightness and contrast helps...

The word on the left side of the top pic is clearly "ARCHIDVC" - "Archduke". This is a key clue, because the only country that used the title "archduke" was Hapsburg Austria. So, this must be from Austro-Hungary or one of their other territories (like the Austrian Netherlands). The X-shaped cross also indicates Hapsburg Low Countries. The shield also looks Hapsburg, too. That helps narrow down the search.

On the bottom pic, we see remnants of the ruler's name: ALB...TVS ET ELIZA.... Searching Wikipedia for joint-rulers of the Low Countries, one of whom must have been "Elizabeth" or some variant thereof, and we find that Archduke Albrecht of Austria and his wife Princess Elisabeth of Spain (a.k.a. Albert and Isabella) were joint rulers of the Hapsburg Netherlands from 1598 to 1621. Which matches your date "1611" nicely.

Coins in their name are perversely listed in the 1600's Krause under Spanish Netherlands (Austrian Rule) rather than Austrian Netherlands. The states of Brabant, Flanders and Tournai all feature these names, but the Duchy of Brabant liard of 1614 (KM# 24.2) is the only one pictured that looks similar to yours. As usual, pictures are pretty scarce for small coins of this time period.

What's the diameter of your coin? the picture of the liard is 23-24mm across.

Yes, it is exactly 24mm across. Wow, thank you for all of the info! Is there any mention of mintage figures (though I know that the figures were rarely recorded in the 17th century)? What sort of value does Krause list in this grade?

Nope, no mintage figures. Assuming it actually is KM# 24.2, then the CV in VG (the lowest grade) is $10. Judging my my souped-up pics, I'm not sure it would grade that high.

Well, the scan makes it look far worse than it really does. I would say that it is about a good or so. Thank you very much, Sap!
