1853 = 1853 BB Napoleon III France Dix Centimes CORRECT?
1859 = 1859 A Austria 1 Kreuzer ~ I couldn't tell you if that is an A or B or if it's a pencil eraser that got melted in an oven and peeled off a cookie sheet!
1870 = 1870 OM Spain 10 Centimos ~ Wrong it's 5 centimos :-(
1886 = 1886 Japan 1/2 Sen CORRECT?
1888 = 1888 A Germany 5 Pfennig ~ Wrong it's 10 Pfenning :-(

It's tough to make out the mintmarks of the 10 centimes and kreuzer but, it was more clear to me in hand. If my calculations are correct, the only winning rank-change possibility is that OttawaVoyageur would get 48 points if the kreuzer were a B instead of E and be alone in 2nd place. Comparing pics and in-hand examination, I'm 90% sure it's E. As for the 10 centimes, I think the full reverse pic shows the best that it's B and not BB. As a side note, it's interesting that three of the four winners are outside of the U.S. Hmmm...  If someone else did this same contest, I'm sure I would fail all three parts. Thanks for the game. it was a blast! Seeing the results now is a very good way to start my long weekend for Canadian Thanksgiving. I just turned on the email function. I still don't get the joke in the contest title  Is it linked to environmental damages & the Hetch Hetchy Valley? |
