Sorry everyone. I eventually realized that my previous contest attempt was not going to work out very well. There are a couple more posts on the original one explaining it a little better:

http://goccf.com/t/296461&whichpage=3

So, tomorrow evening I will be posting the new contest here. It is based on the original world coin idea I had. Don't worry, you don't have to be a world coin (non-U.S. in this case) collector to be able to win.

The prizes will be the same and there will still be three winners!

Official Contest Start

Let's see if this works a little better.

Some may have seen the topics I created about my first bulk world coin purchase. I got 5 lbs of coins which included 475 total coins from over 70 different countries.

What I have done for this contest is pick out the 5 oldest coins with identifiable dates that were included.

What the contestants will do is gradually identify these coins through Three Phases. There will be no pictures posted until the contest is over.

Each Phase will have a winner!

General Rules

You must have 50 posts to play. If you reach 50 posts during the contest, you can then participate in what is left.

Open to members from all countries.

One guess per member, per Phase.

Each Phase will last 5 days and begin when I post and end at Midnight ET (forum time) after 5 full days have passed.

Phase ties of any sort will be addressed if/when they occur. Being fair is high priority!

These are all non-U.S. coins!

The Prizes

Each Phase Winner will receive a silver quarter! They will also receive extra goodies I include to try and make the prize lots even. So...it will basically be a surprise.

You may be wondering now...

Phase 1 Challenge

Your quest is to guess the date of each of the 5 oldest coins.

No two have the same date.

All five years must be included in one post and editing is not allowed without a valid reason (typo, missing coin guess, etc.). Please be honest.

Example Phase 1 guess:

#1: 1980
#2: 1986
#3: 1995
#4: 1997
#5: 2002

Hint: the actual coins are older than that. Think about what I may reasonably find in a world coin bin at an LCS in the U.S.

Phase 1 guessing ends Midnight ET September 24th,
2017
.

That's a lot to read but, it's all important. Anyway, let's get this started!

So, Guess the dates!

@Kevmstewart

I appreciate your anticipation but, you don't currently have enough posts to participate. However, this contest will last a little more than two weeks total so, there's time to jump in later!

This is basically my interpretation of this scenario. One plausible (common) old coin per plausible country (some were left out because I couldn't think of a specific date).

I don't know if partial right guesses are better or worse, but I'll still try...

#1: 1855
#2: 1861
#3: 1862
#4: 1870
#5: 1875

(Took a bit of Numista research to work out - I thought of different dates originally!)

(I'll probably end up far too generous with older dates, but whatever. This list is pretty much what I would expect to find in a junk bin in my country.)
