I need help with this coin,,.,I realize that I still need to clean it more, but this coin is driving me crazy The obverse side has a bust of a man, bare headed and from I have been able to see, a GY in the legend, at the first part. The reverse is of a figure with a stake, and it has an S O or U, something , something..there is a M in the exerque. I apologize for the images, I am still learning how to use my scanner, but maybe somebody can help me with some ideas..I have checked many sites and books to find a similar coin but no success. The coin is 13.5 mm.
Thanks

Yep, sorry, those pics are too small for me to say anything beyond "late Roman bronze, circa 4th century AD". I don't think the letters you're reading are quite correct.

If better pics aren't possible, have a look at Wildwinds. Select "Imperial Coinage by Ruler" and click on some of the later emperors, like Constans and Valens. Once you've got a feel for what the lettering ought to be like, have a go at the partial inscription search. It's great for finding coins from just a few legible letters.

As for cleaning, I don't think more will help - it looks like it's already down to bare pink copper metal.

A good bet, since the bust looks bare-headed, is either Constantius Gallus or Julian II (as caesar).
