hey everyone, I acquired this ancient coin a while back, and I have no idea what it is or if it is even real. There is not a seam along the rim or other indicator of it being a cheap fake. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is an Æ As from Augustus, Roman emperor from 27BC- AD 14. It was issued from the Lugdunum mint, which is the modern city of Lyons. The obverse inscription is CAESAR PONT MAX. The reverse shows the altar of Lugdunum and has the legend ROM ET AVG. RIC 230

Thanks Victor! Do you think that it is real? If so, what is its value?

Your coin has soft details and many pits which might indicate casting, but yours might also be honest wear coupled with harsh cleaning, however sometimes it is hard to be completely sure only by looking at a picture. Weight might be helpful, even though these have a fairly large range of acceptable weights. I am inclined to think yours is real, since you said there was no evidence of a casting seam, but as I already mentioned, this coin has a lot of condition issues. I don't collect coins of Augustus, but I would guess this coin might sell for around $25...or less.

Yeah, I'm quite certain that there are not signs of casting, and there there is real corrosion, which is not pitting from casting. so I'm pretty sure it is real. Thanks a bunch, Victor!
