Perhaps I was right. The S looks too large, too fat, shifted left, not tilted like others, the top right seems chopped off. But I don't know what the MM positions/shapes are on these.

@Kbbpll-
While you are right in saying that it does not match the examples shown, I am fairly certain that there would be at least a few MM positions that were used to make the 1.85 million cents made in SF w/o the initials.
Even the far scarcer 484K with initials had 4 obverse dies used. Additionally, the very coins you posted one is the RPM the other is not. As far as font style goes, yes the top right seems truncated, but the size and fatness could be explained away by a better applied punch and some wear.

I won't pretend to be an authority on authentication for these coins, but if this is a fake, it is a pretty good one. Position appears to be a little different, but I certainly haven't seen them all.

If this mintmark was added, they did a masterful job of matching up the woodgrain pattern...

I just grabbed the two images off PCGS that had the closest MM; I did see that the one is doubled and that there are at least two other MM positions. Yes, if it's fake it's a very good job, replicating the woodie appearance is hard to imagine. And why on a no-VDB? I suppose at MS65 they turn a $65 coin into a $600 coin, but still. I'm certainly no expert, I just compare images and that's all. There is the appearance of some tooling left of the S (highlighted below) but again just pointing out stuff. If you have 15 coins to send to ANACS they have some pretty good sales.
