Artistically interesting. Gorgeous condition. I can see the reason why collectors would enjoy assembling tokens like this.

How many types of Mardi Gras tokens exist? 10,000 or more? When were they first issued?

I dare not start a new collecting area, although I do have some samples.

I don't think anybody really knows. Figure that any place that has a parade and celebrates It the clubs use some form of throws, whether they are the doubloons, beads candy or other small advertising items."Small toys and strings of beads have been thrown by members of Carnival krewes since the 1800s. "Wooden nickels" appeared during Carnival in the 1930s, but krewes started throwing coins made of aluminum beginning in the 1960s." Here is a history of the throws.http://gonola.com/things-to-do-in-n...the-doubloon
AS too the number. There are probably 1,000s a member of another forum, Has over 100,000 and his father over a 1,000,000 including duplicates. this includes the cups, beads, key chains etc.
The term krewes refer to the social clubs that have parade floats. I have about 800 in my colection.
