What did I expect sending this coin into get graded. I knew it would be a details coin. Pretty ugly, but now has some resale value. I am all in on this coin for $220, and I think I could sell it, now that its slabbed for atleast that. Very ugly coin. I do like the reverse though.

There is the old topic. I will hold onto the coin for a while, unless I plan to upgrade at some point. I am still working on getting a 1909-s IH so I will not upgrade until I have the entire set. I am happy to have my coins back and in my possession. 2 months is a long time to wait.
Thanks for all the insight everyone. Much appreciated! BACK TO BUYING COINS!

Yet, you do not show the reverse?

It beats the tar out the 1877 IHC that I do not have though.

$150...going once, going twice,....arggg...NOT sold to me the bidder! Rats!

That would match most of my 1870's, who ya callin' ugly! Only one of two lacking, always a nice place holder no matter the grade. And, youre right about slabbing, has value attached now, no questions.

A horrible picture of the reverse. All I had on my phone from earlier. Its much cleaner than the obverse.

At least the date is right, which is the most important part.

Indeed. The date is all that matters in this case.
I would have thought it would have been AG grade on this one
silly question, do they take in account only the obverse side of the coin when grading? Or would it get a majority of the grade since its the part people actually care about?
Can I take a MS65 coin, and sand off the reverse and still get the MS65 grade? ;) JK

That's quite clearly AG-03 details, not P/FR, which underscores how random this TPG process is. Just a crapshoot. And the green bean is there to charge you again if you want a second opinion. In this busy world a coin can no longer really speak for itself in court.

I must have caught that grader on a good day.
But I got VF on the 1909 S VDB, where I thought it was a clear F. So I will take that trade off.
Resale (if I upgrade) will be much better on the VF vs. F than a AG grade over a P/FR.

Its a definite crapshoot.

One clearly over graded, the other clearly under graded. It's troublesome and shows how the TPGs have us in their claws whatever they say. Hope these two obvious mis-grades work out well for you.
