It's been awhile since I posted anything. I picked up some pretty cool stuff over that time. Here is a recent 1909 vdb my dad came across and gave to me. What do you guys think? Sorry if the images aren't the greatest. Should I send it to PCGS? *** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***

Nice coin!
Appears to be 63-64RB, not worth the PCGS fees IMO. It'd have to be 66+RB to be worth it and I don't think this coin is anywhere near that. Still, it's a nice looking coin!

Very nice! I have one of these too. Its as close as I'm willing to get to 1909-S VDB.

It is a very sharp coin with a great details, however I don't think it's worth the TPG fees,it is not high enough grade to justify the cost, but ultimately it is yours to decide!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Happy to finally have a 1909 in my collection. If I did send it in to PCGS, do you think having them clean it would hurt the coin value or do they have a method of cleaning without damaging the coin and the value? I think the coin could clean up a little nicer. I'll eventually get it graded since it was a gift from my dad. It will be going in my PC.

I've had good luck with NGC conservation, but I haven't done anything with PCGS.
Conservation is rather expensive, and their base price costs more than the value of this coin.
Additionally, I agree with the MS 64 R/B grade, and as such, submitting this would probably cost about what this coin is worth.
If you really want it graded, do so with the knowledge that it's great for your PC to have this nostalgic piece, but unless you keep it as is, the cost will exceed the value.

"Cleaning it to make it look a little nicer" is not necessarily an approved thing in numismatics. I understand those two spots - one on the shoulder and one at the N in ONE - are distractions, but it's unlikely that intervention will make them go away without ensuring the coin gets a Details grade from now on. It may well get that for corrosion as it is, which is a shame because it's such a nice coin. Either way, your cost for such a procedure will exceed the coin's value. I understand in this case cost isn't really a factor, since it was a gift from your father, but it's a call you'll have to make.

Rinse it in acetone and let it dry. That's all the conservation you ought to ever do on MS copper.

It's still a gift from Dad, graded or not. Don't mess with your coin, probably poor results...been there, done that!..Have him sign and date the flip!

63RB, definitely not worth the cost of slabbing.
