I am considering the following trade:

1911 Barber quarter PR63 Cam for a 1913-D Barber quarter MS65

Retail value is identical. I will have to pay the wholesale difference. Is it worth it in the long run? Thanks!

PCGS retail is the same. In the real world, the Proof seems of much higher population - it's on the low end of the Population for Cameo versions, and there are many better to be found. The 1913-D seems to show only 24 coins finer between PCGS and NGC combined, where the Proof shows over a hundred (in Cameo) of higher grade. Even up, I think I'm taking the 1913-D as long as it's worthy of the grade.

The 1911 is for someone stretching the budget to add such a Proof to their collection. The 1913-D is for someone buying the best coin available for their collection. To my mind, at the same price you're getting a lot more coin for the Business Strike.

What an analytical and logical answer to the OP's question. Very insightful. (especially for a newbie like myself)

One of the reasons why I am awe stricken by some of the members here at CCF.
Rest in Peace

that the 13-D would be a much better collection inclusion.

It's really important to look the coin over carefully and not assume the TPG is always right on the money.

There are a lot of 65's out there with horrid toning. Those date quarters can also be found with amazing bullseye toning or brilliant white.

The horrid toning wouldn't sell (if it would sell at all), for half of the brilliant or bullseye. Getting up to this price and grade range eliminates a lot of buyers, and those with the funds to buy high will pass by an ugly coin, regardless of grade.
