The people who sell me this token told me it is Bulgarian. Is this a building complex in Bulgaria or am I searching in the wrong direction?

Rilski Manastir. It is Bulgarian and it is the Monastery of Saint Ivan of Rila, better known as the Rila Monastery. Now all I have to do is to translate the text on the backside. ;-)
