I don't know enough about coins of that era to say if it is genuine or not, ...
but the markings are consistent with Spanish coins of 1701.
I suggest that you measure its diameter. That will help whoever comes along with more information than I.
Oh, and dont scratch it any more.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

The design looks like a Spanish 8 Real coin of 1701. The problem is that the 8 real was minted in silver not gold. The weight is also off the 8 real should weigh 27.7 grams, even the gold 8 Escudos of the period should weigh 27.7 grams. Sorry to say but I think this is a modern reproduction of an 8 real made to look like a gold coin.

"philippus V D grat" = Philip the 5th, By the Grace of God ...
"hispaniarvm rex" = King of Spain

The complicated shield reflects the complicated pedigree that Philip relied upon to justify his claim to the throne. He was the first Bourbon on the Spanish throne.

Diameter ?

Spanish gold 8 escudos of 1701 normally look like this. Silver 8 reales look more like what you've got. Example. Even so, I can't find an example with just "D GRAT" - it always seems to be "DEI GRAT".

It's not from any of the Spanish colonies or European territories ruled by Philip (such as Milan), either.

robert_93030 Just saw the post. Are there any traces of a mounting on the edge?

Cayon lists only 4 versions of an 8R made in 1701 and NONE match this style, none of the 4 has the date on the same side as yours. Dating like that appears to be modeled on a 2R or perhaps a 4R. The weight and diameter indicate an obvious copy - but a fantasy not something intended to defraud.

To me it looks like a copy made for jewelry - a fantasy piece so to speak.

Interesting, very interesting up to at least $30 anyway.
