I am assuming, (oh, oh...)that the SMS set are the "official" replacement for the unminted proof coin for the three years 1965-67...is this right? I just realized that I don't have/any proof coins for those years in my Lincolns and Jeffersons. Have a '65 and '66 set, one in cello other in Cap plastic that I could use. What do you guys do for those blank spaces?

I guess they can't be "official" replacements because they aren't proofs. In my Jefferson nickel album, I added a page for older proofs and used SMS coins for '65-'67. They are noticeably different in the lineup but, fill those years nicely amongst proofs.

Unfortunately, there are other gaps for nickel proofs where there will be nothing to add that is comparable.

Most people who collect and add the proofs into a series set also add in the SMS issues along with all the coins intended for circulation. I know I would feel my set would be incomplete without them but they did make a 1965 1966 and 1967 regular issue that fills the hole just the same. It's a personal preference.
