I'm assuming the question is about the color but, it's difficult to say from the pics. Can you specify what you see?

The coin was painted with something, and now the paint is wearing away.

I asked because, in your pics the coin appears mostly silver-colored to me with splotches of yellow. I'm assuming that the "silvery" areas are actually brown. The other areas of brighter color must be from a coating of sorts. I would guess something clear rather than paint. Here's one I found that had been lacquered or something similar. This is before removing the coating with acetone: The area that was covered retained its brilliance while the uncovered areas turned dull brown, as would be expected.

Quote: So try acetone? See if I changes If you want, as an expirement. Make sure it's pure acetone and give it a long soak (hours) in a covered glass container. After that, maybe use an acetone-soaked q-tip to manually remove remaining residue. It would be good for learning. It won't add any value to the coin, though. It's worth one cent either way.

It does seem that the substance was removed from the surfaces, whatever it was. The new pics make it look silvery-colored. I assume that's just the pics.
How would you describe the color in-hand?
