Specifically, it's a 1942 (P) Type I Jefferson nickel. It should not have a mintmark and came from the Philadelphia mint. It's "Type I" because later in that year, they started making 35% silver versions called War Nickels that had a large "P" mintmark over Monticello's dome on the reverse (Type II).
