Finn235 Pillar of the Community United States 6130 Posts	Posted 10/23/2017 6:21 pm A fourree an ancient counterfeit; copper plated and then struck. Until the plating came off, they were tough to distinguish from the real thing without cutting into it. Mules are more common in fourree counterfeits than official issues, indicating that many were made by unscrupulous mint employees stealing dies instead of disposing of them properly. It was probably hard to sneak them past the guards, so they used whatever was available to them. Report this Post to the Staff
