I have been looking for different 1996 varieties and I am not sure if this is anything or just from being in circulation worn out

Not sure what your looking at, but the only varieties on 1996 Toonies
besides the Canadian and German Planchets are on the reverse
which you don't show.
If you are going to post more photos, please crop and enlarge.
Those are a little small to see any variety.

I'd guess that's PMD, post mint damage.

Looks like another coin was on top of it for a while and it's stained round like in a drink holder in a car.
