Each year about this time, I begin to wonder about the theme for the RCM's annual silver dollar. I believe two strong candidates for 2018 are: - the 100th anniversary of the end of Word War I, and - the 100th anniversary of women being given the right to vote in Canada's federal elections. (The 2016 circulating commemorative dollar marked the 100th anniversary of women being able to vote in the provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta vs. across all of Canada.) Another possibility is the 100th anniversary of the Convention of 1818 / Treaty of 1818 which established the 49th parallel as the border between much of the US and Canada. Anyone know of other significant anniversaries in 2018 that might make a good theme for Canada's commemorative silver dollar? Collecting history one coin or medal at a time! (c) commems. The RCM branch in Ottawa seems started to operate in the 1908.

I would almost guarantee that it would be the women's right to vote anniversary.

Interesting considerations; Womens right to vote politically more appealing for junior BUT would it sell well? No End of WWI - good solid theme and far more appealing for most collectors, right? 1818 Treaty - most appealing as it's never been done before...

Maybe they'll do all themes.

Possibly more 2018 Olympic SDs, although those did not do too well in 2016.

Interesting topic and possibilities. I doubt they'll do another dollar coin for women's right to vote (despite the distinction) but ya never know. How about the 125th anniversary of the first Stanley Cup winner in 1893? Can't image there won't be something big for the November 11, 1918 Armistice. At least a SD and possibly more. No shortage of important battles took place leading up the end of the war too. Also the 50th anniversary of PET becoming PM.

What about some "Silver opportunity"?
To commemorate 70-th Anniversary of the rarest silver Voyageur, by releasing from the vault to the public 20k-30K of these coins.

RCM will be releasing a slew celebratory coins in every finish imaginable commemorating Canada's 151st Anniversary.

My guess is a coin commemorating the numismatic community, shaped like a dollar sign, that glows in the dark, and is bedazzled with a real authentic marble.

That coin would look really cool with the matching Pendant Necklace-Making Kit. Then, they could issue a Fractional Set for the matching cufflinks. A month or two later we'll be able to get the matching 5oz dollar shaped belt buckle coin on the Shopping Channel. I'm still waiting to see if the RCM will come out with a Pendant Necklace-Making Kit big enough for the Peace Tower Clock 90th Anniversary coin.

What about plastic commemorative 'coins'? They could sell them for $6.99 and make them for about 0.001 each! Imagine the profits!! Put something Star Trekky or nostalgic on it and people will fall for it!
