Hi there,

My first post onto the forum website. I am having a little diffculty identifying this coin and I wondered if there were any William and Mary coin experts out there?

I inherited a coin collection and have identified nearly all of them and now have turned to the internet in an effort to identify some problem coins - this being one of them.

It comes with a note William and Mary 17th century, that is all. I would like to know if possible what sort of coin it is, be it a commemorative coin, whether it has a denomination, or whether indeed it is British or from the old German states?

Thanks in advance.

Modern fake, replica, counterfeit, fantasy coin whatever you want to call it.

All genuine William & Mary coins have the portraits of the two monarchs on the same side of the coin.

The person you inherited your collection from was probably a collector and probably bought this coin as a souvenir piece. Sorry, but numismatic value equal to zero, if it's silver maybe worth bullion.

There were some medals, a very small number, that had the portraits on opposite sides. But I haven't been able to tie your item to any of them.

I am inclined to agree with alganbagerap.

Definitely not a coin, but looks like a cast medal or medalette. Edge can be as pictured, if cast.
There are lots of cast medals of this period. A lot of them had their edges mechanically finished, this one seems to have not been through this process.

What is the weight and diameter?

Maybe it's just me but it looks like the details are strong with some spots that were purposefully made weak, I don't know but to me this item is screaming 'Made in China '.
