I decided to put a little more effort into practicing my grading of coins so I'm going to give it a shot with this 1958 D LWC. ok, (heavy sigh) AU53
What are your opinions?

Plenty of pizzaz here for MS, perhaps 63/64. AU-58 at worst.

I wouldn't go as High as the Frog, but you missed one important fact, look at the rim, both sides. This helps me begin to narrow down between MS and AU. Contact in circulation dings it up, in a roll may just show rubbing. then look at the lower left of coat. This will show direct contact the easiest, highest point. This looks like a coin from an early on put up roll. Has some storing rubs is all and previous contact marks (Chatter) from initial transport (Bag?) Because it is uncirculated, it is MS and with chatter and a ew dings be a 62RB, has lost too much luster.

Also, suspect it came out of an older plastic slip cap tube. These were loose enough to let air in to discolor the coins for some odd reason.

thanks guys. I had originally thought AU58. So I'm going to try again with this 1946 and say MS61. I think because of the ding on the reverse on the "N" in cent and the few around the rim and the cheek bone keeps is from going higher.

Then I definitely need more practice! I seem to be bassakwards, low on the high one and high on the low one.

Surprisingly good strike for a 46. That year was notorious for weak and filled strikes. the wear and color alone indicate a medium circulation, then circulation hits and the start of corrosion on reverse (Stalks and center areas) puts it at XF45-50 luster has long since left the building, unless pix is off.
