I am slowly making my way through my dads Colonials, trying to validate what he has. I needed help determining the Vermont and the two Voce Populi, but this one I know as there aren't as many varieties. My question is about the grade. He remembered it to be in the F range, I am not sure so I am asking you all what you think. And also would/could you do anything about the little bit of green on the reverse and what I am assuming is some sort of pen/pencil mark on the obverse...which is very distracting.

That token is uncirculated and worth quite a bit. Try not to handle it! Wow what a beauty! Leave the green and please don't clean it. (EDIT): So after looking at past sales this coin should be in the $400.00+ range. Has a great original look!

i know nothing about this piece but I do know that you do not want to touch this coin with anything as stated. my first thought was that it was in mid-AU range but this is just applying normal grading standards for other coins. hopefully someone pops in with more info for you

Thank you all for the input. I have read many a discussion about cleaning and was just curious peoples thoughts on this one...of which I won't try to fix the pencil mark. Not that I could convince my dad to have it sent in for grading, would this be worth doing?

If that's a simple pencil mark it should come off with an acetone dip. I thought it to be a planchet alloy mix issue.

I am just adding my dads other plain edge kentucky to this...certainly not as nice as the lancaster.

Thanks Scopru...I will let him know. The funny thing is he bought them all in bulk. I don't know what he paid for them but I know it wasn't more than $500, but again this was in the 60's. It's crazy to me, as I have been going through all of them, that he had know idea how many nice examples he had...or the value. I give him a bad time about this....that when you add this to all his Canadians (I had posted a few of his nicer ones) I see where my college money went to.

The Lancaster edge is at least an AU and might be uncirculated the plain edge maybe a Fine. Both are better than mine. Back in the 60's there wasn't much interest in Conder tokens and uncirculated pieces cost about $1. The Kentucky token would have been higher than that because it's listed in the RedBook, but it probably wasn't more than $5 to $10.
