I recently started CRH penny boxes, but need some guidance on what to look for other than wheats & copper. Hoping to pull coins that I can hopefully flip to help cover the cost of the boxes I hunt. Not sure what to look for out of the many errors & variations that are out there. Hoping to find a balance between solid coins that might be realistically found and the monsters that are found far less frequently...hoping to start hoarding copper & silver, start keeping some nice items as part of my new collection as I start my hoard. Maybe trade some finds for junk silver or copper.

I predict that others will say that hoarding copper is not a good idea and I agree. Hoarding silver is on the edge. Within pennies (cents), there is a wide spectrum of things to look for that is not easily described in one post. For Lincolns, from 1909 until today there are many key dates, varieties and errors to look for. I would suggest getting a RedBook at the least. It has important info. Also, there are several websites available such as coppercoins, varietyvista, Lincolncentresourse, Lincolncentsonline, cuds-on-coins, error-ref, etc. that will help you in the journey.

sort your cents into date piles. Use a piece of cardboard and draw a table with the dates in order for each square. Sort by date THEN check the sites suggested. Going through one year, with or without different mint marks, will teach you what to look for from each pile. Use the different sites to get a feel for what you want to look for and which site is easiest to use.

Thank you all. I have been looking at those sites, but some years have hundreds of variations. I was hoping to get the list down (as my knowledge is starting at zero). I think to start I am focusing on the zinc pennies. I think the CAM from 1992 and the WAM from 1998-2000 are some of the main variations to look for. I am separating out pennies from 1982, 1983, 1984, 1988, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2011, & 2013-2017. To be honest I don't even remember why some years are being separated, but I think those were years that had more than minor variants to look for. I am also trying to figure out what I should get for equipment. What strength loop or magnifying glass do you guys use. Do you use any microscopes (and what kind). What type of camera do you use for taking the close up coin pictures. I have tons of questions but dont want to make this post to long. I look forward to meeting & speaking with you all. Thanks again to all who replied already & to those who will be.
