I searched all over to find a similar coin and came across '88 cents selling for hundreds to thousands from having a Wide AM reverse. Does that apply to 1988? I never heard that. Anyway, I was originally looking for a sunk rim. The closest I saw was a penny struck on a dime planchet. This coin is pretty light, but it is missing most it's rim.
This coin is probably worthless, but it's odd. Any ideas?

Scratch my question about Wide AM. I think the sellers just confused '88 with '98.

Your coin is suffering from major zinc rot. If you spend it fast it is worth one cent, soon it will rot down to zilch.I am not sure what you are referring to about the WAM.It is normal on the 1988 and I can't see why a common WAM on a 1998 is worth hundreds? Can you post a link to that info?

It might have been in a bezel, although I can't think of a reason to put a cheap coin in such an encasement.
