Okay, that's not 100% true. I bought a couple proof sets with Ikes but not specifically for that coin. We decided to go to the local monthly humongous flea market today where there are a few dealers who set up. I've purchased from one before. I looked over everything from a couple of them and for some reason these stood out. I had not owned any silver Ikes and the only nice one I have is a Bicentennial clad proof. So...I said "What the heck". 1971 "Brown" Ike: 1973 "Blue" Ike: That was the only Brown Ike being offered by anyone. I could have gotten a 1971 Blue Ike but none of them looked better than that 1973. That's what is so great about in-hand evaluation/comparison. I was able to look at nearly a dozen Blue Ikes within a couple minutes and decide which was best for me (if any). As a side note, I smiled to myself a couple times because at each dealer I purchased from, there was a youngster interested and buying. The first was a 11/12 yo and ended up buying a 2005 proof set (birth year, I overheard). At the other dealer, there was a younger kid asking to look through the silver dime junk bin. I assume they purchased something. In Memory of Crazyb0 12-26-1951 to 7-27-2020 In Memory of Tootallious 3-31-1964 to 4-15-2020 In Memory of T-BOP 10-12-1949 to 1-19-2024

I love the look & size of the Ike's. I play in a weekly poker tournament at Foxwoods and use a clad one as my card protector.

Nice Ike's...and great pictures.
Do you mind sharing what you paid for these? Just curious as to what they are going for in your area.

Quote: Bingo! I live a little outside of Canton I thought so. I'm about an hour plus away. The Civic Center is one of my favorite spots, AC and coins... I've briefly looked at the coins but still have yet to buy any. I'm always with the Mrs. and typically others as well, so time is typically limited...[B] Quote: I could have gotten a 1971 Blue Ike but none of them looked better than that 1973. I've read in the past that decent '71 blue Ikes in the OGP cello are somewhat difficult to come by, something about the packaging I think.

The Ikes really take some knowledge, I guess like any series. They've almost made me break my want list many times. They are great values, I believe, as so many have been broken out of their boxes.

Very nice Ikes!
The 1971 proof looks to be a peg leg from your photo. Not uncommon for this year, but still a fun find.
As dave700x has stated, it can be difficult to find a nice one. Most are VERY cloudy and baggy. I am still looking for a really nice clear one myself to upgrade the ones I have.
Congrats on the great finds...Mont.

Quote: The 1971 proof looks to be a peg leg from your photo. I had never heard of the "peg leg" variety until I bought these. That involves the missing lower serifs on the R in LIBERTY and lower left serif on the E from die polishing, correct?
