I've learned that Burlington, ON is starting a new coin club and looking for members to get it off the ground. I know of 2-3 other folks in the area, but not sure how many more. They have initiated a simple website, but anyone interested should contact this address BurlingtonCoinClub@cogeco.ca. It isn't me or Gidgit that started it, but I'll be there either under this name or my old handle of BillinBurl.

Any idea of how many members this club has?

I just replied yesterday. From the email I received (from a Paul Maddison) it doesn't seem like there are too many members yet. They are just trying to see how many would be interested in starting a club and then go from there

Jimmy ... I got the same feeling from Maddison's email back to me. That's why I posted this on the CCF site ... to see who might be interested. I'll give Gidgit a call .... I've met him a few times and maybe he knows some fairly local folks since he's an ebay seller..

Any ideas on where meetings might be held? It's a bit of a drive for me so knowing the location is a bit of a deciding factor for me.

No idea yet where meetings are to held. Probably waiting to see how many people are interested. Would be a good bet to say it would be somewhere in Burlington though.

Paul reached out to quite a few people including myself looking for advice and direction. I suggested that he contact the RCNA, ONA and even the ANA who may be able to offer some assistance/suggestions. Getting a new club off the ground is a monumental task and the Hamilton Burlington area could certainly use one as this area has been under serviced for years. We are very fortunate in Ontario from Windsor to Ottawa to have so many vibrant clubs thanks to the tireless efforts of member volunteers and organizers.

When I started this thread here on CCF, Paul Johnson, the secretary of the RCNA, just sent Paul M an email offering RCNA help for him. The RCNA knows that I am probably the busiest coin site poster that lives in the Burlington area, so they info'd me as well. I am personal friends of many on the RCNA executive committee and am a long-time collector/researcher (mostly Vicky large cents). For the last 20 years, I have been known as Billinburl on most coin sites. There hasn't been a coin club in the Hamilton/Burlington area for nearly 20 years.

i know Burlington used to have a stamp club I'm not sure if they're still around but if so maybe the two clubs should merge together?

I for one have zero interest in stamps. But that's just me.

Update- For those who may be interested but have not yet replied to Paul, there are 10 confirmed members and right now he is looking for a suitable place (Library?) for a first meeting next month.

I would suggest that anyone interested to contact Paul Maddison to let him know your interest. You can contact him by using the initial link at the beginning of the thread (which is just the email link). I sent him one a few days ago to suggest a possible meeting place, so we'll see. I would think that we would need a core of more than 10 before we could do any justice to any youth (and non-coinsiters)that we will pull in.
