Hello, Over the past year I have taken an interest in building a collection of dimes from 1937 - 1952 in high grade, ICCS MS-66, where available. Does anyone know of any dates available in this grade, as some have been pretty tough to find...I have checked ebay, but preferably looking for some reputable Canadian dealers to support I look forward to hearing any thoughts on this set as a collecting focus and anyone who knows where I can purchase some of these coins Thank you

Easily doable in 65 but in 66 you have set the bar high. Good luck you will have a real challenge!

Good luck, a dime collector should be a fairly easy goal.

Just checking ebay you will find a single 1937 in MS 66 ICCS. The only other early ten cents in 66 are a 1901 and a 1917. As stated you set yourself a HUGE challenge. Try a set in 2 letter MS 65 , you might find some very PQ examples that will upgrade.

Pacificoin is right tough to get the George 6's in the MS-66 and extremely expensive. MS65 is more doable and still expensive just no where near as much as 66's would cost. If you ever assemble a bunch of MS-66s from those years I'd love to see pictures.

Me as well . Not sure it is going to be that easy in true 66.

Thanks Silverwolf and Pacificoin...I made an offer on the 1937 MS-66 last night to London Coin centre, and glad to hear it was accepted today...I hear what everyone is saying here, it's a hard collecting goal and it's been tough to locate them for my collection...if anyone hears of any coming up for sale please keep me in the loop! Once again, thank you for everyone's thoughtful responses!

According to the latest ICCS population report, there is at least one MS66 dime for every year b/w 1937 and 1952. With the exception of 1948 and 1949.

Thanks johnnysprawl
There is now one ICCS graded 1948 MS-66, it must be recently graded, I missed out on getting it in the June TCNC auction...they also had a nice MS-66 1938 dime, it went for big bucks For 1949 there are still no MS-66s...It seems like a coin with a higher mintage such as this one should have some very high grade examples...anyone have any theories as to why none have turned up in MS-66? There are quite a few mintstate examples in the ICCS report but none in this grade

1949 Ten Cents is an issue that was not saved extensively. Most were released to circulation with not a great deal of bags or rolls saved. Charlton and Hobin were a couple of sources in the 1950s and 1960s. The coins are usually struck somewhat concave with very sub par reverse details . Sharply struck 1949 ten cents that are mark free are very difficult to acquire. Die burn on the bust is also a problem. Best I have had is a 65 with full rope details on the schooner. ICCS 65 in an embossed early ICCS holder. Sold it for over 65 money a few years back. Collector did not even argue!

Thanks for the info Pacificoin...such a small world, I am pretty sure I bought a 1949 dime in MS-65 from you earlier this year, a different one than you are mentioning above... On another note, I worry a bit about buying all these coins in MS-66, only to find out that a new roll surfaces and knocks down prices (the only reason I worry about this is a dealer I was speaking with put the fear into me that this might happen!)I am still learning about the hobby, but wouldn't most of the original rolls have surfaced by now in people's collections and Estates? Would love to hear people's thoughts here on that topic...

@twoods yes you did , thank You! I would not really worry about huge hoards showing. There are rolls here and there for sure. A lot of stuff has been searched and slabbed since the 80s and the advent of TPGs. Cheers!
