Hey All,

I was this site to understand and know what varieties of coins there are and what there associated values are http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-prices.php

What I had a question about is this: There seems to be larger or more well known varieties that most everyone knows about. Take for instance the 1955 1c. It has the SF, SF Hanging 5 and NSF varieties. If you look at this link on the site, http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins...nt-1953-1964, closer to the bottum you will see "More Errors and Varieties". For these coins, what is the worth of said coins and why are they not listed alongside the more well known varieties? I have not been able to figure this out and hoped someone could provide some info on that.

I appreciate any and all help!

CaC is a guide and nothing more. There will be coins listed on there that are direct result of people talking about it on the forum "discussions" on the overall CaC site ... and the names that they give just may be a different name or different die state (but same coin) that has been known about for years. Coins are also listed on there that are "errors" and not varieties. And there are "errors" on there that are just post-mint damage or "garage-jobs". This is just another way of saying that you can't believe everything that you see on the internet and CaC is just that ... an internet posting site. It is my feeling that nothing on the CaC has been vetted or checked for accuracy and I also feel that the pricing especially is subject to a lot of scrutiny. However, the moderators work hard to try to keep things up-to-date and accurate, but there's only so much a person can do. You can never be an expert or educated researcher on every denomination and every Monarch. It's a good site to use as a comparison reference and possibly see photos or descriptions, but don't believe everything that you see or read.

So the unofficial or unverified errors and varieties that are listed at the bottom of these pages are not really official or recognized as being an actual error or variety correct? Therefore their worth is nothing more than the base year price I would assume.

No, I'm not saying that those at the bottom are not "official" or "recognized". It's just that those "others" have been found or reported and more info needs to be collected. Items may be also on the bottom initially before moving to the other sections before the site is updated. You should use the CaC as only one of the many places that information can be gleaned. Never use ANY reference as a "sole site" to find the accuracy of ANYTHING. The internet opens up all kinds of places for misinformation to fester and grow. Do as much research as possible to try to find what you want to know.

The "more error and varieties" section at the bottom includes many items that are not varieties or errors .. they are merely later die states or conditions of die wear, such as die cracks. The vast majority of anything at the bottom adds no or little value above the price of a normal one. Please don't take everything so literally .. written words are many times misinterpreted to mean something that is not intended. It's easy to explain things face-to-face by pointing things out .. .but it's difficult to put into written words clearly. I will just say to use ANY reference material "carefully" and never believe everything that you read.
