I was wondering how the Polymer notes can fit into the grading system as they can get the slightest 'crease' or fold quite easily, but compared to a 'paper' note they are in much better condition. Would be interested in your thoughts. Thanks

Good question. I think the grading element is going to remain the same, i.e., 3 folds for XF, that kind of thing, but the overall appearance of the note is going to be strong. Fading and tearing should be much reduced, so the lower grades of Poor-Very Fine are going to be a bit harder to achieve.

Just my take on polymers, all of mine are UNCs, and the US is using paper, so some folks from the polymer money side of the world (which is pretty big) are going to have to chime in.

Thanks paxbrit.

I am originally from Australia and we kicked off the Polymer note thing back in 1987, I've seen a lot of polymers in my time and tearing has been non-existent, aside from people taking scissors or a stanley knife to them, I don't even recall and fading on the many notes I handled either, so yes it is interesting on how to grade these...
