Hello all I have never been in a place like this before so I am not really sure if I just post or what but here goes. I collected coins when I was much younger and in early teens then stopped. I found the collection recently after 20 years and it restarted the passion and I have started coin roll hunting. I have only been at it a few months so please bear with any stupid questions. I have a 1990 penny not in the best shape but I noticed its not quite right. Can anyone tell me what kind of error this is? I am guessing a problem with the stamp and not the Die but not sure. There looks to be doubling around the Memorial and slightly around Lincolns head as well as in the lettering.
What you are seeing between the tops of the letters and the rim is not a doubled die, but is split plating. The strike broke through the plating and not is exposing the zinc. this happens sometimes on the zincolns.
Thanks for the info I see that a lot and couldn't figure out what it was. This all gets confusing sometimes but it is so much fun!! Its nice to know that there is a place to go and speak with people about it.
